  Very impressive with vgood rooms and friendly service. Perhaps new batteries needed in tv remotes as they were unresponsive.

  The hotel itself, don't be fooled by the heritage facade, inside it is an amazing modern dwelling. Phil gave us a tour of the hotel, if you can, do stay in his most luxury suite, absolutely gorgeous! Every morning we had an amazing breakfast, the eggs are perfect! This is the place to stay, close to Ulverstone and so many other attractions that your host can direct you to. We'd happily go back!!

  I booked my room at late notice and got a great price. Then i was spoilt rotten by the owner. I got a guided tour of the hotel, delicious breakfasts, peace and quiet and complimentary drinks. If you are ever in Penguin book at The Madsen!

  A wonderfully old-school building and very comfortable accommodation. Room service food was delightful, and the staff are very helpful and friendly. Beautiful views across Bass Strait and the sound of the wind in the eaves is really soothing allowing you to drift off to sleep after a long day.

  The Madsen is one of those little gems you never expect to find but are so glad that you did. Driving past late at night we wandered in and was enthusiastically greeted by Phil who not only is an amazing host, but knows everything and is happy to share the best places for food, sight seeing and anything else you might need to seek.
